Treescapes, miniature animals on display at the library
There are new displays at the Cortez Public Library. Adeline Dodson has an eclectic collection of art, cards and stuffed miniature animals in the cases. Laura McHenry is showing her collection of treescapes, some by area artists who have displayed their work at the library in the past. These displays will be up until the end of February. The Southwest Artist's League's artist of the month for January is Saralynn Risenhoover.
January Storytime
"Jump into January" is the January theme of Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library. Storytime is held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for preschool-aged children. Older children are welcome to join us for the craft at 11:15 a.m. We'll learn about "Animals in Winter" on Thursday, Jan. 24 and "National Oatmeal Month" will wrap up the month on Thursday, Jan. 31.
Raising Readers Storytime offers songs, stories, crafts and silliness and uses the Early Childhood Literacy Initiative program.
January computer classes
The Cortez Public Library and the Unlimited Learning Center, 640 E. 2nd St., will offer computer classes in January. On Thursday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m., the library will hold a Using Google class. Subjects covered will include simple searching tips and techniques, Google Maps and Google Images. The same class will be held at 10:30 a.m. on the same day at the Unlimited Learning Center. All classes at the library must be signed up for ahead of time, as space is limited. Sign up by calling the library or by stopping by. Wolf will be on hand to meet kids at library talk
In conjunction with the Toss in the Tundra disc golf tournament, Paula Watson will present a talk at the Cortez Public Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 on wolves and her work at Wolfwood Refuge, a state licensed non-profit refuge protecting wolves and wolf/dogs. Trinity, a Wolfwood ambassador animal, will be on hand and doesn't mind being petted. There is no charge but donations would be appreciated. Little People Storytime
The Mancos Public Library offers Little People Storytime on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in both English and Spanish. Children ages 3-6 will be taught songs, verses and stories in both languages with the changing of the seasons emphasized. A craft is also offered.
Fireside Chat and Detoxification Workshop
Dr. Amy Loschert, ND will present a Fireside Chat and Detoxification Workshop on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. by the fireplace in the main library. These workshops will address frequently asked questions regarding detoxification and safe cleansing strategies: How do you know which strategy is the best for you? Is it really safe for anyone? Which ones might address heavy metals vs. chemicals vs. poor diet and chronic inflammation? How long do you need to detox for? What foods should you eat and avoid while on a cleanse?
Great Decisions reading discussion
Great Decisions will resume at the library on Monday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. in the meeting room. The Foreign Policy Committee announces the first article/discussion is Future of the Euro by Erik Jones.
