Montezuma-Cortez High School will be presenting William Shakespeare's "Macbeth," the second performance in its season line-up. The show runs Friday, Jan. 25, Saturday, Jan. 26, Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. There will be a special matinee showing at 1 p.m. on Feb. 2.
Skipping out on the traditional Middle Ages style of a Macbeth performance, M-CHS students will be filtering the tragic classic in a new light. The show will be performed in grayscale with shadows, fog and all black and white props, reminiscent of classic film noir.
The story will remain true to the play; a young man who is foretold he will become king, commits murder for the crown and his entire world begins to crumble.
The M-CHS show will be set in the 1940s, complete with gangsters and tommy guns, but will adhere to Shakespearean speak. Sets, make-up and costumes will be done in grayscale. The only color included will be red, to emote guilt felt by the main character.
The show will be performed in the M-CHS auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Children five and under are free.
