AIR-TRAFFIC CONTROLLER: Dolores junior Brianna Schwartz (11) flies between Ignacio's Gabriela Garcia (visible at right) and Valerie Armstrong (20) for a tough runner in the lane Tuesday night during San Juan Basin League action. Schwartz netted 10 points, but the Lady Bobcats pulled off a rare upset inside DHS Gymnasium, winning 55-48 to improve to 4-2 overall while leaving DHS at 5-3 entering this weekend.
PROTECTING HER INTEREST: Dolores senior Lexi Atkinson (12) tries fending off aggressive defense applied by Ignacio’s Sky Cotton (right) during Tuesday night’s San Juan Basin League action inside DHS Gymnasium. Atkinson led all players in the game with 15 points, including four three-pointers, but the Lady Bobcats pulled off a rare upset on the road, 55-48. DHS dipped to 5-3 overall with the loss, while IHS improved to 4-2 led by Mariah Vigil’s 13 points. Cotton and Michelle Simmons (seen at left) each chipped in a dozen.
FIRE AWAY: Dolores senior Chaz Thompson (22) hoists a long shot attempt over Ignacio’s Wyatt Hayes (2) during San Juan Basin League action Tuesday night inside DHS Gymnasium. Thompson scored seven points, all in the second half, but it was not enough to help the Bears (3-5 overall) overcome a 39-26 halftime deficit in a 69-55 defeat.
GOT DIBS ON THIS: Dolores junior Tyler Weir (21) clashes with Ignacio’s Austin Haire (23) for a rebound in San Juan Basin League action Tuesday night inside DHS Gymnasium. Playing on one good foot, Weir still netted 12 points (senior Cody Carroll led all players with 20, classmate Austin Blackmer added nine), but the Bobcats defeated the Bears 69-55.
