Southwest Colorado Community College on Tuesday announced the selection of a new executive dean.

Starting immediately, Norm Jones will oversee operations at the East Campus in Durango and West Campus between Mancos and Cortez, as well as a course-offering site in Pagosa Springs.

The move comes after an unsettled six months. In May, Pueblo Community College President Patty Erjavic abruptly announced she was consolidating the two SCCC dean positions into a single executive dean. Incumbents Shannon South and Lynn Urban were fired and replaced with an interim, Cindy Mihelich. The money saved by paying only one salary would be directed to classroom resources, Erjavic said at the time.

Over a 38-year career, Jones has held administrative posts - mostly in admissions and marketing departments - at eight different colleges and universities. He comes to the Four Corners from Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, Penn., where he served as vice president for enrollment and athletics.

Jones holds a bachelor's degree in social science from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Education degree in guidance and counseling from West Georgia University.

"I believe strongly in this institution's mission of providing quality educational opportunities that transform the lives of our students, enrich our communities and strengthen the regional economy," Jones said in a news release.

SCCC is currently enrolling and registering students for spring semester classes that will begin Jan. 14. For more information, reach the Mancos/Cortez campus at 564-6200 or Durango campus at 247-2929.
