On Saturday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m., the Cortez Special Olympics basketball team will hold its first ever Rock Out for Special Olympics music festival.

The event is hosted at the American Legion.

Donations are currently being solicited in the form of cash, food and musical performers.

This year, Cortez Special Olympics is not receiving funding from the state level. Funding goes toward regional and state tournament trips to Grand Junction and Denver. Money donated goes toward travel expenses, such as food, lodging, transportation and tourney entry fees. Ten athletes will be traveling to compete in these events.

All donations are tax deductible. Special Olympics Inc., is recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Special Olympics' Federal Tax ID number, or Employer Identification Number (EIN), is 52-0889518.

After making a donation, in four to six weeks time, a person will receive an official document from Special Olympics' central office in Denver confirming the monetary value of the donation for tax record usage.

If anyone is interested in donating, please send donations payable to Cortez Special Olympics to Special Olympics Coordinator Marcelino Aldaz, 13691 Road 28, Dolores, CO. 81323.

Any additional questions or concerns can be answered by basketball coach Brandon Eubanks at 749-5096 and by Aldaz at 565-3830.
