Art III high school students just completed the memory project where they painted portraits of disadvantaged children from Vietnam and Rwanda. You can learn more at www.memoryproject.org.
In their self evaluation of the portraits students answered the question: What did you enjoy about this project?
Here are some of the responses:
"I enjoy being able to imagine the joy this painting may bring to a child. I hope this girl loves her picture because she is gorgeous," said Cydney McHenry.
Others felt that the long-distance portrait was a great motivator.
"I enjoyed the thought of sending this to someone overseas. I think it gave me incentive to do my best. It was challenging but also really fun, " said Mattie Killean.
Brianna Wallace wanted her portrait to put a smile on someone's face.
"I enjoyed knowing that I would be putting a smile on my little boys face for Christmas," Wallace said.
The students worked very hard to complete these portraits, said art teacher Amy Woodward.
The portraits will be delivered and then the Dolores art student will receive a photograph of the child holding their portrait.
