A Durango city employee died earlier this month of injuries suffered while on the job, officials said Friday.

The employee, Moises Dominguez, worked for the city’s solid waste, trash and recycling division for just under four years before being injured on the job, said Assistant City Manager Amber Blake.

The accident occurred the morning of Sept. 10 on Narrow Gauge Avenue, which runs between the railroad tracks and Main Avenue in downtown Durango.

Emergency crews took Dominguez to Mercy Regional Medical Center, where he was flown to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, Blake said. Dominguez died at San Juan Regional Medical Center.

Blake declined to release information about the circumstances that led to his injury and eventual death, citing an internal evaluation.

Public records of the death were not immediately available from the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator.
