Plans are underway to establish a rifle club in Dolores, with affiliation with the National Rifle association and a meeting will be held at the bank next Monday night for that purpose. All who like to shoot (something besides the bull) are invited to join. It is planned to establish an indoor range,for small bore shooting, in some convenient building in town and later an outdoor range will be established for the use of high powered rifles.

A decision by the U. S. supreme court upholding the validity of a law in Texas regulating the operation of private carriers will open the way for similar legislation in Colorado, it is predicted.

Newell Musgrave received a painful injury and one that will keep him confined to his home for several days while skiing on the course across the river Sunday. He fell and an oak snag struck him on the leg just above the knee cutting a deep gash and one that required several stitches to close. However, Mr. Musgrave will be back on the job at the Akins store in a few days.

The Dolores Pharmacy has on display, among the many other relics is a case, of quart Budweiser bottle with the label intact. The bottle is genuine and the label has been preserved in some manner for these many years. The alcoholic content of its one time contents was 4 ½ percent, whether by weight or volume is not stated.

Six inches of snow fell in the Dove Creek section Wednesday, according to Noel Sitton. About an inch fell in the vicinity of Dolores.

Dolores Hose Company this week received and unpacked a fine big new siren which will in the future give alarms when fire threatens in Dolores.

The siren is operated by a two-horse electric motor and it is said to create a sound which can be heard for five miles. The noisemaker is being installed in the tower of the town hall and for the present the switch will be in the hall room on the lower floor. Later, it is hoped, the switch can be placed in the local telephone office.

The new siren was tried out yesterday afternoon, much to the disgust of various dogs in town. It will be turned loose again at a minute to twelve Saturday night to herald the advent of the new year.

Prof. and Mrs. Claude Needham, of Socorro, N. M., are here visiting Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Bradfield. Mr. Needham is a member of the New Mexico school of mines faculty and has been over near Durango inspecting the famous sliding mountains.

Pat Stuart, the local telegraph operator, will be relieved of his duties at the local Western Union office next week. A man named Tantrum, older in point of service,is coming to take Mr. Stuart's place.

A rather unusual accident occurred at the west end of town last Thursday evening when Frank and Nelson Pettingill ran their cars together with such force that both machines were badly damaged. Nelson was coming in from a trip to Utah, driving a light truck, when Frank going out for a spin met his brother head on. Lack of lights on Nelson's truck was the cause of the smash. The boys say it would have been too bad to have the misfortune in two families, so they kept it all in one. Neither of the occupants were injured.
