The Origins of the Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum

Dr. Tara Travis, Supervisory Museum Curator at Mesa Verde National Park, will present “The Origins of the Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum” on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Chapin Mesa Museum, Mesa Verde National Park.

The program is part of the 2018 Four Corner Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.

Travis has worked as a public historian in the National Park Service for over 20 years including the Office of Indian Affairs, Intermountain Region, and Canyon de Chelly National Monument. She began her museum career working at the Indian Arts Research Center, School of Advanced Research, Santa Fe. She is interested in the intersections of art, architecture, cultural landscapes and comparative culture heritage. She has a bachelor’s degree in art history from Northern Arizona University, a master’s in architectural studies from the University of Texas and a doctorate in history from Arizona State University.
