Area women plan ‘Little Black Dresses’ fundraiser on Sept. 22

The Mancos Valley Historical Society and the Bank of Colorado present “Little Black Dresses” on Sept. 22 at the home of Teri and Drew Simmons near Mancos.

The women’s event will feature hors d’oeuvres, beverages and a dress review with prizes and local music. It starts at 7 p.m.

Any local woman may participate in the review, with prizes in categories including Vintage Evening Wear, Itty Bitty Black Dress, South of the Border, My Favorite Little Black Dress, Audrey Hepburn Look-alikes and Elegant Hats. Participants can enter more than one category.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening.

Cost is $20 at the door, with proceeds going to the Historical Society’s museum fund.

Tickets are available for advance purchase at the Mancos Visitors Center.

All area women are welcome.

“Dresses need not be black,” said Historical Society President Linda Simmons.

“It is all about a ladies’ evening out, dressing up and having fun. Any color or style of evening wear is appropriate.”

The Simmons house is at the intersection of County Roads J and 39 west of Mancos.

Signs will be posted to assist arrivals.

Last year, the event attracted about 40 women and raised more than $1,000 for the museum fund.
