I want to bid all of you a hello from dear old Rico.

Secondly, I must apologize for a short Rico Report this week. I realize that I am a struggling student on the computer, but I have lost my cool and refuse to try to redo - for the third time - what I intended to send to you this week. My editors may not agree with me; I am sorry and sad!

These are topics that I wish to pass on to you: Our new water is complete. Silver creek is a trickle at this point - thankfully, our storage tanks will remain full. Needless to say, the town is safe.

We elected a new and highly efficient Mayor, Greg Anderson. He ran unopposed. Board members are Gary Reid, Genevieve Yellowman, Dave Kunz, Jim Kahn and Joe Corey. We retained Mike England as our Town Manager, Susan Baker as Town Attorney, Linda Yellowman as Town Clerk and Dennis Swank as Town Maintenance Engineer.

Our Annual Noel Night weekend continues today, Saturday through late Sunday afternoon. It includes booths for arts and crafts at the Burley building, and Rico merchants will remain open all evening. Everyone will be offering finger foods and beverages to appease our customer's appetites so that they may keep shopping without the distraction of hunger pangs! It is always interesting, fun and worthwhile, with good bargains.

We have been quite concerned about the shallow Dolores river and the Kokanee Salmon spawning upstream. The Cortez Journal covered that situation this past week. We have not seen a single eagle on the river above Dolores and this is an annual occurrence we enjoyed viewing - all of them sitting in their favorite spot, waiting for a prize fish to appear for dinner.

The Rico Women's Club will celebrate the holiday season with a fine dinner at Herk's restaurant on Sunday.
