Friday, Aug. 3

8:28 a.m.: A man towing a trailer hit a gasoline pump at the Handy Mart, 806 S. Broadway, causing damage estimated as high as $10,000. The driver was insured, and the officer asked the manager to contact him with a more precise estimate.

9:48 a.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., for violating alcohol-related bond conditions. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital, then jailed.

3:33 p.m.: A driver identified as a man who escaped custody at Montezuma County Combine Courts on Aug. 1 led officers on a car chase through Cortez before police called off the pursuit because of public safety. According to police, the man started driving west from the Cortez Park Apartments and drove about 55 mph in a 30 mph zone on East Empire Street, passing vehicles in a no-passing zone and failing to stop at a stop sign at West Empire and North Broadway. Driving south on North Broadway, the driver allegedly hit 78 mph in a 45 mph zone, then drove through a red light at Seventh Street and South Broadway. The officer ended his pursuit in the 800 block of South Broadway and notified the Bureau of Indian Affairs that he might be headed toward Towaoc. The officer requested a warrant for the driver on charges of vehicular eluding, driving without a license, reckless driving, speeding, unsafe passing, failing to obey a traffic signal and disregarding a stop sign.

5:46 p.m.: Responding to a report of an intoxicated man crossing the street, an officer arrested a man matching his description near the Cork ’n’ Bottle, 443 E. Main St., for violating alcohol-related bond conditions. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital, then jailed.

5:54 p.m.: A man in the 2200 block of East Main Street reported a hit-and-run crash involving his parked and unattended vehicle.

8:52 p.m.: An officer on foot patrol approached a man in City Park, 803 E. Montezuma Ave, asked his name and arrested him on a municipal warrant. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital for intoxication, then jailed.

9:11 p.m.: A woman driving with a cracked windshield and no front license plate was pulled over in the 500 block of North Mildred Road. She was arrested on two warrants and cited for driving while suspended, driving without a license plate and failing to restrain the four children in the back seat.

10:53 p.m.: A man was arrested at 880 S. Chestnut St. for violating an alcohol-related protection order after reportedly fighting with three women, including his two sisters. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital because of his facial wounds and intoxication, then jailed. The man and his sisters said they did not want to pursue charges.

10:22 p.m.: An officer on foot patrol at City Park, 802 E. Main St., was cited for violating alcohol-related bond conditions.

Saturday, Aug. 4

12:40 p.m.: During a hit-and-run investigation, passengers in a vehicle reported that two men in a “glittery green Jeep” with New Mexico plates followed them westbound on Main Street, honking their horn and following them as they changed lanes. The Jeep then bumped the rear of the victims’ vehicle as it stopped at the traffic light at West Main Street and South Maple Street. A check with dispatch provided no record of the license plate number that the passengers reported.

12:32 p.m.: A man who lives in the 500 block of East Second Street reported that he had a protection order against a woman whose mother was texting him. An officer advised the woman that she may not have contact with the man even through a third party. No charges were filed.

9:40 p.m.: On man cited for possessing alcohol in the park during the balloon festival in Parque de Vida. A companion was arrested for interfering with an officer, medically cleared at Southwest Memorial and jailed.

11:50 p.m.: A woman sitting in a parked car in front of City Hall, 123 Roger Smith Ave., was arrested on a warrant.

8:55 p.m.: A man who failed to register as a sex offender was cited at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., and advised to register the following Monday.

Sunday, Aug. 5

2:08 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 1400 block of Jackson Street on suspicion of DUI, driving with a suspended license, careless driving, resisting arrest and violating a protection order after nearly colliding with a police car. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital, then jailed. About three hours later, he was also charged with careless driving and hit-and-run after an officer found a damaged parked vehicle in the 1400 block of Navajo Street before his DUI arrest.

11:43 a.m.: A man was arrested at the Colorado Welcome Center, 928 E. Main St., for violating an alcohol-related bond condition. He also was served a trespass notice, medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital for intoxication, then jailed.

3:56 p.m.: A woman was pulled over in the 100 block on North Harrison Street for a broken taillight and arrested on suspicion of possessing narcotic mushrooms and an open container of alcohol, failure to provide proof of insurance, and a faulty taillight.

Monday, Aug. 6

7:36 a.m.: A man was arrested at City Park, 803 E. Main St., after allegedly fighting with his wife. He was charged with second-degree assault, domestic violence and violating a protection order and alcohol-related bond conditions. He was cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital for intoxication, then jailed.

5:19 p.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.

Tuesday, Aug. 7

11:10 a.m.: A man who was being booked into the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., was served a warrant for failing to appear in court.

4:15 p.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St.

5:41 p.m.: A man was arrested on a warrant in the 700 block of E. Main St. and was cited for driving with expired license plates and failing to show proof of insurance.

9:51 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma Park, 15 W. Montezuma Ave., for violating alcohol-related bond conditions. He was medically cleared for intoxication at Southwest Memorial Hospital, then jailed.

Wednesday, Aug. 8

1:51 a.m.: A woman was arrested on three warrants in the 200 block of West Fifth Street.

1:53 a.m.: A man was served a warrant at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
