The School Community Youth Collaborative (SCYC) has announced the 2nd Annual Jingle Bell Dash. The Jingle Bell Dash is a 5k or 1 mile run/walk celebrating educators. The Dash kicks off with homemade hot cocoa and cider at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Let It Grow Nursery and Garden Market in Cortez.

The Montelores Early Childhood Council (MECC) will host the Elf Scurry and fun crafts for children ages 3-8 and their parents. Parents must accompany young children. The Elf Scurry, a short 100-yard dash, will kick off the activities and the 5k or 1 mile race will follow. Expect a visit from Santa and holiday carols performed by the Montezuma-Cortez High School choir.

The Dash is a great way to kick off the holiday season, get some exercise and support education. The public may participate as a family, a team or individually, and participants can wear a costume. Every participant is encouraged to raise pledges in support of their participation and our local educators. Registration fees support SCYC youth leadership development programs, and funds raised through the pledge drive will be awarded to a winning school or early childhood center to be used for teachers’ supplies. Prizes will be given to those who raise the most money through the pledge drive.

Discounted early registration fees are available through Friday, Dec. 7, at a rate of $15/person or $12/team member (four or more participants equals a team). After Dec. 7, registration fees increase to $18/person or $15/team member. Participants may register the day of the race, but early registration is preferred. Children ages 8 and under participate free. Registration forms, pledge forms and more information about the Dash are available at http://scycmontezuma.wix.com/jinglebelldash or call 529-0635.
