The Cortez Police Department is looking for a man who robbed the Giant Gas Station at the intersection of Main Street and Mildred Road early Wednesday morning.

Cortez Police Chief Roy Lane said a man came into the gas station at about 1:30 a.m. and told the store cashier that he had a gun and demanded money.

Lane said the man never showed the cashier a gun, and the suspect fled with an unknown amount of money.

Lane said he is not sure if the suspect had an accomplice, possibly with a car waiting, or if he acted alone. Police will review the surveillance video but they anticipate that it will only show the person who entered the store and demanded money from the store employee.

Lane said the investigation is still in the early preliminary stages, and no suspects have yet to be identified.

The same Giant store was robbed by two men in the early hours of March 31, 2011. Both men were arrested and convicted of the crime.
