‘Where Do We Go Now?’ screens at Conscious Movie Night

The Center of Light presents “Where Do We Go Now?” at Conscious Movie Night, on Friday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. at the Sophia Peace Center, 19581 Road 31; in Dolores, turn left on 11th, go 1.8 miles, and look for the sign with a dove on the left. Set in a remote village where the church and the mosque stand side by side, this film follows the antics of the town’s women to keep their men from starting a religious war. Women heartsick over sons, husbands and fathers lost to previous flare-ups unite to distract their men with clever ruses and the unexpected. The screening is free. Any donations will be given to United Religions Initiative whose purpose is to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously-motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings. To RSVP or for more information, contact Deacon Bridget Wyatt at 882-2123 or at deaconbridget@centersoflight.org.

The presentation will begin at 9 a.m. at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church (the corner of North and Elm), and the public is invited. Dr. Grimes will address such questions as: When was Jesus born? Why do we celebrate Jesus’ birthday on December 25? Why don’t Paul and Mark mention Jesus’ birth? Why is there no mention of the virgin birth in Mark, John or the letters of Paul? What are Advent and Epiphany and why do we celebrate them? How did Americans develop a two-track celebration of this season: (1) The holy days leading up to Christ Mass; (2) the holidays leading up to Christmas? Empire rate issues to be discussed at Chamber Luncheon

The Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to hear more about “Empire Rate Issues” at the Chamber’s Business Luncheon on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at noon at J. Fargo’s, 1209 E. Main in Cortez. Everyone is welcome to attend. In January 2013 our electric rates are scheduled to go up an average of 4.9 percent due to an increase in the cost of purchased electricity from Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association. Because 75 percent of Empire Electric’s total expense comes from this purchase, Empire then has to pass these costs on to consumers. Empire Electric does not generate electricity. It delivers electricity generated by Tri-State to each Empire customer in their service territory. In addition to the 4.9 percent increase, Tri-State is implementing a new rate design that includes time-of-day energy pricing and seasonally differentiated average demand rates. Call Dena at 565-3414 for information about the Chamber’s Business Luncheon.
