The Dolores Town Board on Tuesday gave the nod for the Dolores Town Manager to begin the process of installing a BMX pump track in town.

Town Manager Ryan Mahoney was excited about the opportunity, especially since the idea will essentially be cost neutral to the town.

“We have the dirt and we have the volunteers,” Mahoney said.

The track will be constructed in Joe Rowell Park behind the basketball courts. But construction likely won’t start until this spring.

The idea of the pump track is that once you get going, you don’t have to pedal much. But Mahoney said the jumps will be small enough that even small children can participate.

“It will be fun,” Mahoney said.

Also on Tuesday, the Town Board gave the nod to grooming cross country skiing trails at Joe Rowell park this winter. The Town of Dolores was recently given a snow mobile and a groomer, donated by Chicken Creek. Town officials hope to groom areas in the park for skiers to ski on.

“We just want to try it and see if people like it,” Mahoney said.

Volunteers plan on doing the grooming for the town.

“This will be fun,” he said.

We just have to wait for more snow to fly to try it out.

Also Tuesday, the Town Board gave Mahoney the go-ahead to order more Christmas lights for the town. Mahoney says they will decorate the trees in Flanders Park, including the crab apple trees along Railroad Ave. In addition, the town will help decorate local businesses.

It should be a pretty Christmas.

Local Dolores residents approached the Town Board last month asking it to spend a bit of money to help brighten the holidays a bit in town, by adding more lights and encouraging businesses to decorate more.

Mahoney said that on Wednesday morning he ordered 48 strands of Christmas lights. That’s 4,725 extra twinkling bulbs that will be in town.
