For five consecutive days earlier this month, cheers and laughter echoed across the driving range and the putting greens at Conquistador Golf Course as roughly 80 junior golfers honed their swings and putting strokes.

Beginning on June 4 and lasting until June 8, the five day camp, which was open to junior golfers over the age of four, emphasized fundamentals through a wide range of fun activities and games.

Conquistador Golf Professional and longtime Montezuma-Cortez High School golf coach Micah Rudosky ran the camp, while local golfers Jacob Curtis, Keith Hawkins and Jeff Carr also provided coaching assistance.

Campers received instruction for approximately two hours every morning and at conclusion of each morning of activities, several young golfers found their way to the driving range to work on their skills.

“The camp went really well,” said Annette Rudosky, who helped organize the camp. “We had about 80 kids in the clinic and 50 kids in the tournament.”

The tournament to which Annette Rudosky was referring took place at Conquistador Golf Course on June 21 and included a variety of age divisions. Younger golfers teed off from modified tee boxes set in the middle of fairways, while older golfers teed off from regular tee boxes.

By the time the tournament concluded, Cortez’s next generation of golfers wore looks of contentment after a day at Conquistador Golf Course during which fun was had by all.
