Drop-off deadline for Montezuma County primary ballots is Tuesday

The deadline to receive a primary election ballot in the mail was Monday, but voters can still participate by delivering their ballots to the drop box outside the Montezuma County Clerk and Recorder’s Office before 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Unregistered Montezuma County residents can also register to vote and pick up a ballot at the office before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Republican voters have four candidates for governor and three state treasurer candidates on their ballots.

Democrats will have to choose between three District 3 representative candidates, four governor candidates, two treasurer candidates and two attorney general candidates.

All local Republicans, including commissioner candidate Jim Candelaria and incumbent Sheriff Steve Nowlin, are running unopposed.

The only local Democrat, commissioner candidate M.B. McAfee, is also running unopposed.

County Clerk Kim Percell on Thursday said her office has received 3,244 ballots so far.

The Clerk and Recorder’s office is at 140 W. Main St., Suite 1, Cortez. It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The drop box in the parking lot outside the building is available all day, seven days a week.
