Funeral services for longtime are resident May Gean Nielson will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, M Road Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery.

Visitation has been scheduled for Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 in the Relief Society Room at the church.

Gean was born September 16, 1926 in Stoney Point, Ark., the daughter of Robert Lee and Willie Mae (Weatherton) Fox. She passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012, at her Dolores residence at the age of 86.

On June 16, 1946, Gean married William Kent “Bill” Nielson in Aztec, N.M. Gean was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was actively involved in Relief Society at her church. Gean was a wonderful homemaker. She loved to cook, can, embroider, and sew. In her free time Gean liked to shop and square dance. Gean enjoyed time spent with her family, her grandchildren were the love of her life.

Surviving Gean are her husband of 66 years, William K. “Bill” Nielson of Dolores; and her children, Gary Nielson and wife, Dawn of Lewis, Judy Tate of Dolores, and Kent Nielson and wife, Cindel of Craig, Colo. Gean also leaves behind 15 grandchildren; 33 grandchildren, with one on the way; six great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and her siblings, Holly Schluterman of Fort Smith, Ark., Florence “Bossie” McEwen of Cortez, and Charles “Choc” Fox and wife, Eleanor of Cortez. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her daughter, Diane Bailey; by her grandson, Billy Tate; by her son-in-law, Byron Tate; and by her siblings, Robert Lee Fox, Mary Lee Kleck, and Anna Jewel Fox.
