A winter’s market for Cortez

Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 12:11 AM

For the first time, Cortez will have its very own winter farmers market, courtesy of Four Seasons Greenhouse and Nursery. Keeping it local and keeping it fresh, Four Seasons is bringing the market indoors to keep shoppers comfortable and satisfied.

Four Seasons is located at 26650 Road P and is owned by Vic and Gail Vanik. Their greenhouses, annuals, perennials, trees and produce sit on 20 acres. All plants are grown at the nursery, a great setting for a market experience.

Four Seasons is preparing its own produce for the market. They have one and a half greenhouses full of nothing but lettuce, 1,500 tomato plants of various kinds and they have been playing with herbs and new ways to grow produce.

The Vanik’s are growing cucumbers, radishes, kale, broccoli, a few herbs, spinach and more.

For the market there will be coffee, apples, lamb, pork, eggs, onions and lots of produce. They will also have items like jewelry, quilts, flowers, dried arrangements, baked goods, pastries and much more.

The farmers market will be held inside their main greenhouse where the registers and seasonal shop are located. They will have 14 tables in the greenhouse for vendors and the upper section will continue to house their Christmas décor until after December.

The market at Four Seasons will open every Saturday beginning Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will continue through March of next year.
