At what cost?

After reading all of the letters regarding John McHenry’s situation, several thoughts come to mind. This fire moved very quickly, burning several hundred acres in a short amount of time. Our local deputies and firefighters had their hands full trying to get people out of danger and to safety, all while trying to ensure that homes and property were protected.

In an emergency situation, it is very common to react in a crisis. The trauma and anxiety of possibly losing one’s home or loved animals can be all consuming. But at what cost?

I, for one, am very glad that Mr. McHenry did not perish or become severely injured in this incident. I wonder what the letters would have said if he had completed his run and been injured or worse?
