It looks as if the Dolores School District measure 3C will pass. Late night numbers show the school bond, passed with 64 percent of the vote. Of the 903 votes counted late Tuesday, 563 or 64.5 percent voted in favor of the school measure.

3C is a $3.47 million school bond that will allow the Dolores School District to access an additional $2.62 million in BEST grant money awarded earlier this year, for a total of $6.09 million in facility improvement at Dolores schools.

The biggest of the improvements is the $3.7 million construction of new science and vocational education classrooms and the demolition of the current, failing science building.

Montezuma County Clerk Carol Tullis told a crowd at the Montezuma County Elections Office in Cortez just before 11 p.m., that absentee ballots were still being counted.

She explained that the numbers released, showing all three school measures in the county winning, did not include any of the absentee votes, even the ones mailed weeks ago because she couldn’t release those numbers because of a new state regulation that requires all absentee ballots to be counted first.

Dolores School District Superintendent Scott Cooper waited until nearly 1 a.m. before confirming a victory.
