Ages and Stages



Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Art Therapist Casie LaMunyon, with 17 years of experience, will present developmental milestones of young children ages 2 to 11 and strategies to support your child in becoming independent and responsible on Wednesday evening, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Mancos Public Library. The event is free and open to the public. All caregivers of preschool and elementary school age children are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 533-7600.

Nov. 12: Two episodes of the Last Airbender

Nov. 26: The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader

Let’s talk about Tolkien



In honor of the upcoming release of “The Hobbit” movie, the Mancos Public Library will host a talk by Fort Lewis History professor Michael Martin about JRR Tolkien and his masterpiece “The Lord of The Rings” Trilogy, on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m. His book, “The Hobbit”, is a rich and exciting tale about a Hobbit’s journey where he meets (and sometimes thieves from and sometimes battles) trolls, dwarves, elves, men, dragons, wargs, and wizards. This talk will examine and explore several of those aspects, as well as the actual written text published first in 1937, the upcoming movie in 2012, as well as what were the many and various inspirations for Tolkien’s story. Fire season subject of meeting



“2012 Southwest Colorado Fire Season: A Year in Review”, will be presented at the Mancos Public Library on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. Please join FireWise in reviewing the situation and lessons learned from this fire season as presented by Scott McDermid, West Zone Fire Management Officer for San Juan Public Lands and other fire personnel. Chat with naturopathic doctor



A fireside chat with Dr. Amy Loschert, ND, will be on Nov. 17 at 1:30 “Uncovering the Myths and Facts About Naturopathic Medicine, A New Model of Care”.




Quilt auction at the library



The Mancos Public Library will host a Quilt Auction and Fall Open House on Nov. 18 from 2 to 6 p.m. Live music (courtesy of Jamie Bechtel and Dan Fitzpatrick), treats, buggy rides (courtesy of Will Stone), kids activities, a campfire with storytelling and a cider press (bring your own apples and containers). Quilts will be hung in the library and bid sheets made available starting Nov. 1 and the silent auction will end at 6 p.m. on Nov. 18. There is a $5 suggested donation. Collecting candy wrappers



Mancos Girl Scout Troop 7226 is “upcycling” all types of candy packages and foil drink pouches this October, for a TerraCycle project to benefit Mancos RE-6 School District. Please save the packaging and wrappers to be collected via the Mancos Mancos Public Library. We wish to thank all the local business for their assistance last April. We especially appreciate the Mancos Library’s offer to allow our Troop to collect wrappers, through the year, for our project. Visit www.Terrcycle.net for more information.




Yoga Wednesdays at Kaleidoscope



Community yoga with Amy Hartline is at 5:30 to 6:30. The fee is $5.

Gentle yoga basics with Keneen is at 9 a.m. to 10:15. Yoga all levels with Keneen is at 10:30 a.m. to noon. The first class is free and drop ins are $12.




Bilingual storytime at Mancos Library



The Mancos Public Library, located at 211 W. First St, is now offering Little People Storytime on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in both English and Spanish. Children ages 3-6 will be taught songs, verses and stories in both languages with the changing of the seasons emphasized. A craft is also offered. Free! Indoor flea market to be ongoing



There will be an Indoor Flea Market every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Flea Market will be held at the Old Hardware Store, 192 S. Main, across the bridge and just past The Absolute Bakery. Everyone is welcome to come sell, browse and buy. Spaces are available — 12’x12’ for $12 for both days. Call 749-9320 for more information. Teen writing group meets on Wednesdays



Local writer Suzanne Strazza in partnership with the Mancos Public Library, will be leading a writer’s group for teens ages 13-19. This group will meet at the Mancos Public Library, located at 211 W. First St., every Wednesday from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. No prior writing experience is needed. There will be no homework or required writing for this class; it is merely to explore ideas and how to get them onto paper. For more information, please call MPL at 533-7600.




Teen Computer Club at Mancos library



The first Wednesday of each month at 5 to 6:30 p.m. teens will meet in the Community Meeting Room at the Mancos Public Library to work on various computer projects. All meetings will have hands on experience with digital devices, disassemble, build, etc. At times we will have regional computer geeks visit. They will answer questions on specified topics, such as animation, robotics, game development hacking, etc. Questions? Call for more information at 970-533-7600.
