The Colorado Mountain Club presents a program called “Trekking and Travel in Patagonia”. It will be given by Anita Phillips and Greg Rossell on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., at the Lyceum at the Center for SW Studies on the Fort Lewis College Campus. (The San Juan Chapter of the CMC meeting will follow.)

In 1997, Anita Phillips and Greg Rossell took a four-month trip to South America, starting with a climb on Aconcagua. They will present a slide show that will focus on 6 weeks of trekking and travel in Patagonia. First was a ten day walk through the mountain circuit of Isla Navarino, an island south of Tierra Del Fuego, and the last stop for yachts making the journey to Antarctica. Next is the popular loop around Torres Del Paine. Finishing with a trip to stormy Fitzroy in Glaciares National Park in Argentina.

Greg Rossell, Nebraska native, moved to Colorado to pursue rock climbing, and then Utah for his passion to fly hang gliders. He is a building contractor, now semi- retired, and enjoys ice climbing, white water rafting and mountaineering.

Anita Phillips grew up in northern New York State, is a potter by trade and moved to the Southwest after discovering late in life that the natural color of the sky is not grey. She presently works at the La Plata County Department of Human Services. Her main interests include long treks and mountain scrambles.

Their partnership in home construction allowed for extensive travel and volunteer work to foreign countries between building projects. Travels have included most of Central and South America, Cameroon, Morocco, New Zealand, Tasmania, Spain, Greece, and British Columbia. Their trips have been as varied as a camel trip in the Sahara, a six week self supported sea kayak trip the length of the Barrier Reef in Belize, purchasing a burro to trek the Andes, and their most recent raft trip down the Grand Canyon last month.

The Colorado Mountain Club (www.cmc.org) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
